Drain Feeder Forehearths

When one of the world’s major float glass manufacturers
wanted to add a forehearth to their float furnace design
to produce coloured rolled glass at up to 100 tpd.
BH-F responded by designing the first forehearth
with
colorant section in the world to achieve this. This line is operating successfully on both clear and coloured glass production.

In this instance, the forehearth was included at the time
of designing the furnace. However, this technology can be
added to an existing float furnace, as was the case in a recent
forehearth supplied by BH-F to a float glass producer in the USA.
In that case, although the forehearth was supplied
with provision for colorant equipment,
it is currently producing clear patterned glass at 100 tpd.
The installation of this equipment was successfully completed
under hot conditions by our
experienced installation engineers,
without disruption to the float glass production.

In both these cases, the end user reports that
the addition of this equipment not only gives
better flexibility to the operation of the furnace
but in the case where drains would be used,
it also gives added value to the drain off glass
that would have been recycled as cullet.

This technology can also be added to existing dedicated
rolled glass lines which are presently producing either
clear or wired glass.
