Colorant Forehearth

Features:

  • Wide colour range to match most requirements.
  • Wide pull range with the 400 series forehearth cooling.
  • Short colour change times compared to colour change melters.
  • Lower energy consumption compared to small colour change melters.

Benefits:

  • Increased flexibility enabling a better match to customer demands.
  • Less machine down time due to shorter colour change times.
  • Reduced inventory cost because of the ability to produce smaller quantities.
  • Trial production runs feasible.

BH-F Colorant forehearth designed to high quality coloured glass production

The BH-F Colorant Forehearth has been designed to incorporate our
400 series forehearth technology and the proven
forehearth colouring technology of Ferro Corporation.
Ferro Corporation pioneered the
production of forehearth glass colour concentrates and
Patented the original technology.
From development, modelling and years of experience they determine
the colour concentrate type, feed rate and melting temperature
plus the melt time and mixing requirements.
The BH-F Colorant Forehearth is then designed and zoned to provide
the required heat inputs, stirrer zone and cooling capacity to
deliver glass of the correct temperature, homogeneity
and colour for the product forming process.

BH-F Colorant Forehearths have been supplied for container,
cosmetics, tableware and architectural production.
The colour range produced covers shades from pale tints to deep black.
The normal colour range produced is from clear soda lime glass,
but borosilicate and lead glasses can also be coloured
and new colours can be produced from
melter produced coloured glass.

Specific applications
Please contact BH-F to discuss the possible pull ranges
to match desired colours. Space limitations and colour
densities will limit the possible pulls.

For special and custom colours
In order to determine whether a desired colour is feasible
on a colorant forehearth and the actual concentrate required
to produce it, Ferro require a 100g sample of the
target colour and 5kg of the base glass as pieces
(not crushed cullet).

Technical Data:

Colour Range From clear oxidising soda-lime Blues, Greens, Browns, Purples, Pinks, Greys and Blacks.
Pull Range 416 forehearth (16" wide) 2.5 to 15tpd (2.7 to 16.5 UST/d)
xxxxx 426 forehearth (26" wide) 10 to 50tpd (11 to 55 UST/d)
xxxxx 436 forehearth (36" wide) 40 to 120tpd (44 to 132 UST/d)
xxxxx 443 forehearth (42" wide) 80 to 200tpd (88 to 220 UST/d)
Typical Zoning Warm-up zone Increase the glass temperature to that required to melt the colour concentrate.
xxxxx Melt zone Allows the concentrate to melt and diffuse into the glass.
xxxxx Stirrer zone Using the multiple banks of stirrers ( three or more banks) ensure an even colour distribution in the glass.
xxxxx Cooling zone One or more 400 series longitudinal cooling zones to condition the glass to the required temperature and homogeneity.
xxxxx Conditioning zone Finishes the glass conditioning and delivers the glass to the forming process.
Extent of supply Base forehearth Refractories (excluding channels), steelwork, combustion and cooling systems specifically designed to match customers' requirements of normal and colorant production. Existing, long, forehearths may be capable of being converted for colorant production.
xxxxx Refractory Channels In fusion cast material are specified as part of the base forehearth and can be supplied by BH-F if required.
xxxxx colorant Equipment Designed by Ferro, including feed hopper, weigh system, concentrate delivery equipment and stirrer mechanism, can be supplied.
xxxxx Ancillary Cooling Equipment For the concentrate feed tube and the stirrers can be supplied.
xxxxx Bulk Handling of concentrate Including bag emptying station, main concentrate storage hopper and bucket elevator system can be supplied.
xxxxx Special zone exhausts The exhausts in the colorant zones have been designed to allow the control of internal pressures and prevent any condensates falling in the glass. These can be supplied with motorised dampers to allow pressure control.
xxxxx Heating and Cooling options The full range of BH-F 400 series forehearth heating and cooling options are available.
xxxxx Temperature Control A full range of temperature control options are available, from single loop to full PLC/sCADA systems with ACS.
